Friday, January 29th

Today we had short classes.  We went to the high school and saw our school’s production of Sleeping Beauty.  It was an outstanding performance by our students. One performance stood out. The young woman who played Maleficent gave a fantastic performance.  She has an amazing voice.  Even among all the wonderful performance, she stole the show.  See it if you have the chance.

During our shortened classes, we watched the second episode of When We Left Earth – Friends and Rivals.  It was all about Project Gemini.

Monday, January 25th

We finished the phases of the Moon unit Thursday.  Today we began the constellations unit by watching The Universe - Constellations and students completed a worksheet.
Honors Science
Students worked on three comets, meteors, and asteroids worksheets – Falling Stars, Space Object Differences, and Comets Myths, Facts, and Legends.

After having reviewed the basics of the phases of the Moon, students re-did three worksheets –
Identify Phases of the Moon - Part IVab, Identify Phases of the Moon - Part Vab, and Identify Phases of the Moon - Part VIab.

Student groups began researching possible topics for study – What Do You Want to Know?

Students watched The Universe - Mysteries of the Moon and completed a worksheet.
Honors Science
Students began a series of assignments that cover the History of Asteroid Discovery. They completed two assignments, Thinking Outside the Box and Between Jupiter and Mars, I Place a Planet.

Students took the size and scale unit Assessment
Students completed two phases worksheets – Phases Worksheet Part Iab and Phases Worksheet Part IIab.
Honors Science
Students read Cool Curious Comets and completed a worksheet.
Students read the comets, meteors, and asteroids pages in the science textbook and completed a worksheet.

Thursday, January 7th

Students finished two assignments; Kids Discover Moon magazine and worksheet and The Day the Moon Was Gone and worksheet. They were assigned to read a section of the science textbook discussing phases of the Moon and completed a worksheet.
Honors Science
We began the Question Mars assignment. Students are learning how to develop research questions about Mars.

Monday, January 4th

Science
We began the Phases of the Moon unit with a lecture and students taking notes.  Students were told if they know and understand the following four facts, they will have no problem with this unit.
1. Know the order of the eight phases of the Moon.
2. Know when the Moon is between the Earth and Sun, we will see the New Moon phase.
3. Know when the Earth is between the Moon and Sun, we will see the Full Moon phase.
4. The Moon revolves counterclockwise around the Earth.
Honors Science
We began Asteroids, Comet, and Meteors unit with the lecture and notes.
